Season
2006
2006 was a good
year for the Scottish Borders Triathlon Club. For the first time
all the qualifiers for the Club championship actually took place
in the Borders.
Thanks to the sponsors Borders
Sport and Leisure Trust and especially Ian Learmouth and his
team for a well organised “Borders Sport & Leisure Trust
Triathlon Series”, with events taking place at Galashiels,
Hawick, Peebles, Selkirk, Kelso and Eyemouth swimming pools.
The series finally came to a climax on Sunday
17th September at Eyemouth. It was an almost perfect racing day,
the sun shone for us and there was not much wind to speak of.
Rory Methven won again in fine style in a time of 1:08:18, almost
three minutes ahead of the second placed athlete. However, there
were some great results from others, with Paul McGreal having
a superb time after having done an 8 hour adventure race the day
before, coming in 11th.
Graham Easson just seems to be getting better and better all the
time, with one of his best sprint race results to date and even
after Ronnie Notman’s charge, managed to beat him again
in their private little tussle, with Graham 15th and Ronnie 23rd.
New member Alisdair Clipston also had an excellent race to place
7th. Other placings were – Adam Nichol 12th and first junior,
Iain Arnott 13th, Brian Nichol 14th, Charlie Roberts 25th, Suzanne
Mercer 44th, David Hunter 46th, Katrona Methven 63rd and 1st female
supervet and the ever present Toby Vint 69th.
Rory also managed to get himself an interview
on Radio Borders, who
were at Eyemouth pool for a few hours, as did his mum, Katrona.
Unfortunately the DJ’s were gone by the time the presentations
were being made, but Rory claimed the overall “Borders Sport
& Leisure Trust Triathlon Series” prize which was presented
by Nick Gillingham, former breaststroke world record holder and
Olympic medallist. The Borders club received several prizes for
the series as a whole, with Adam taking 1st Junior, Jenell Robertson
1st female vet and Katrona 1st female supervet.
The series also brought several new faces into
the sport and they all showed an enthusiasm to continue next year.
All in all the whole series was a great success for both the organisers
and the club, with numbers increasing as the races went on, so
let’s build on the success for the new season. Good luck
with your training!
Club Championship
The club championships were based on the best
four results of the Borders Sport & Leisure Trust Triathlon
Series plus the Hawick duathlon. It was hotly contested as ever
with some competitve showings from all those that took part.
The overall honours went to Rory Methven with
Kenny Short a close second, while Suzanne Mercer was first female.
Well done to all who took part.
