THE ‘NINETEEN’ DURTY TRI |

|
Scottish
Borders Triathletes are please to announce the launch of a brand
new event taking place in the Scottish Borders in June 2008. Thanks
to the initiative of Paul McGreal, St Marys Loch will host an
off road triathlon for the first time.
The race is centred at St. Mary’s
Loch, approxamately 10.5 miles from Selkirk
in the Scottish Borders.
St Mary's Loch has been chosen
for its superb water quality and spectacular surroundings. There’s
simply nowhere better in the UK to enjoy racing off-road. Click
here for map
This event is offers a choice
of distances to suit a range of desires and abilities. The ‘Sprint’
distance race will be a great introduction to Open Water swimming,
and off-road racing, but will provide a stiff challenge for the
speed-freaks as well. The ‘Standard’ distance will
be a tough, but very rewarding challenge for those wanting to
test themselves, and also for experienced racers.
Normal Triathlon Scotland rules
will apply – see www.triathlonscotland.org
for further details. This includes drafting – i.e. don’t
(not that you’ll get much chance on your mountain bike!).
REGISTRATION: Starts 0700hrs on
29th June at the Lochside. Collect your race number, swim cap,
any final details etc. Bikes must be racked on your numbered slot
before the Race Briefing.
RACE BRIEFING: 0845hrs in the
Transition Area.
START: 0900hrs – there will
be three starts, Sprint, Standard and Kids Duathlon. Precise times
to be confirmed at Registration.
The
Main Event
There will be three separate races over three distances on the
day:
‘Nineteen’
Durty Triathlon Sprint – The Short, Fast Durty One
750m Open Water Swim One lap,
deep water start. (wetsuits compulsory – these can be hired
if required from www.triuk.com
or www.thebicycleworks.co.uk.
15km Off-Road Mountain Bike.
This will be on a combination of tracks, forest roads and paths,
and is a bit hilly. There’s nothing too extreme, most or
all will be rideable for most or all – if you feel the need
to walk a bit, no problem, we’d prefer you stay in one piece!.
One lap.
5km Off-Road Run. It’s
an ‘out-and-back’ single lap along a slightly undulating
lochside path. Nice!!
‘Nineteen’
Durty Triathlon Standard – The Long, Hard Durty One
1500m Open Water Swim Two
Laps, deep water start. (wetsuits
compulsory – these can be hired if required from www.triuk.com
or www.thebicycleworks.co.uk.
30km Off-Road Mountain Bike.
This will be on a combination of tracks, forest roads and paths,
and is a bit hilly. There’s nothing too extreme, most or
all will be rideable for most or all – if you feel the need
to walk a bit, no problem, we’d prefer you stay in one piece!.
Two Laps, passing transition at the end of lap one.
10km Off-Road Run. Hilly!. Largely
on good tracks and forest roads, there’s also a section
through a forest ‘ride’, and across some open hillside.
Kids Duathlon
Distances TBC (we’re
going to test ride with some local kids to be sure we get this
right in terms of distance and technical difficulty). Both bike
and run will be entirely off-road, tough, but not extreme. Watch
this space or the event website for further details.
